Same with a laptop or desktop, it's not that hard to pull the drive out or to use an external drive. It's easy to setup a phone to save photos to an sd card and it's just as easy to pull it out before sending the phone in for repair. Ultimately it's all a matter of trust and it's probably better to physically remove any drives or sd cards with data you don't want anyone else seeing before sending something in for repair. Anyway, that's not a good solution cause as you pointed out humans are curious even if they're not going to be aroused by your naughty pics they might still see them out of curiosity.
